The Valencian Shortfilm section is a space reserved for Valencian production short films, an opportunity to get closer to Valencian cinematography and its professionals. In the XXI edition of the festival, the selected films, such as those scheduled for today’s session, Wednesday, May 3, will be screened at ABC Park cinemas. Its directors provide us here with some comments and reflections on their works:
ADRIANA EN EL OLVIDO – Elena Piquer
“Adriana en el Olvido” It talks about how a woman can feel when she reaches fifty, and how she can be left behind by younger women and men. It is a story told through the relationship between a writer/screenwriter and his middle-aged female character, which in turn is inspired by the woman who hires him. In a comedy tone, they talk about how tragic it can be to pass the fifty barrier.
EL CHIGRE – Pablo Quevedo
“El Chigre” is a documentary that presents the performance of La Evolucionaria. The artist embarks on a personal odyssey to turn the traumatic past into an epic love poem through Artkimia Terapoética. This short is a sublime extract of three days and two nights of recording, produced by quebue_Creative_Studio, which manages to capture the essence of the performance without interfering with its natural development.
This short documentary is a current odyssey to recover inner sovereignty and release the truth of Being. El Chigre not only represents a personal experience but also opens up a very silenced topic of alcoholism in society and aims to raise awareness and give visibility to this problem that destroys families and environments.
LAS COSAS QUE ME HACEN FELIZ – Antonio Savinelli
The short film addresses the children’s universe, seeing from their perspective how children experience feelings of loneliness, lack of attention and excessive use of screens. The adult universe also appears in the short film, the unstable drive between the desire to lavish love and attention on our children, versus the difficulty of achieving it due to the use of technology and the need to reconcile work and family.
FORTUNA – Jairo González
Fortuna is a film that seeks to question social truth and dark reality, a crossroads that lives between the main characters, where we discover a story corrupted by lies, anger or justice. A film, in which the protagonist, played by Mónica Bardem, considers it easier to ask for forgiveness than permission. Fortuna is about power, justice, secrets and the discovery of a life full of lies. A fear that is preceded by the disappearance of one of the town’s children, Miguelito.
LA GÀBIA – Adán Aliaga
Craft style, “La Gàbia” portrays the personal story of the director’s parents. It is an essay about the couple, about loneliness and the passage of time in the daily life. With an aesthetic almost of domestic cinema, the presence of asbestos and its consequences latently haunt the protagonists, creating an atmosphere typical of social cinema, although with fantastic and surreal overtones.
All in all, the true center of attention falls on the leading couple and their dynamics, through which the director pays tribute to their parents and to all those affected by contact with asbestos: “‘La Gàbia’ not only wants to be a tribute to my father, who passed away months after I finished shooting the short film (and could not see it finished), but also to all the victims that asbestos has caused and will cause throughout the world.”
MESA PARA 3 – Álvaro G. Company
“Mesa para 3” tells us a story about the bonds of friendship between five friends. What at first was a normal dinner, will change the existing dynamics between the members of the group. A simple mistake at the reserved table, initially for five people, now for three, will cause an unexpected turn in the relationships of the protagonists.
All the short films will be screened this afternoon at 7:30 p.m. at ABC Park cinemas. Like all festival events, admission is free. We are waiting for you!
